The bike has light surface scratches/scuffs here and there and some dings in the fender, but looks very good overall. The original seat has some surface wear and a scuff of color. The last owner said that it was a 1939 model, but I could not verify that. But this bike appears to be in fabulous condition. MONARK SILVER KING LADIES 26" BALLOON ALUMINUM BICYCLE FRAME. Silver King also developed a monthly payment plan, making their purchase a bit more palatable for depression era consumers on a tight budget. Their unique style and light weight made them extremely appealing. Monark began building aluminum bicycles under the name Silver King in the 1930s and continued their production into the 1950s. The designers must have had fun going from batteries to bicycles. Lights, head tubes, rear stays, bottom brackets. There are quite a few art deco touchs on all of the aluminum models from Monark Silver King. Monark was a unique company that had its start as a battery manufacturer from the early part of the century. This ladies bicycle has the triple step Lobdell rims, window lugs, and hocky stick holed chainguard. Year is most likely 1935 - Monark only built the windowless lugs in 1935. This bicycle has been tuned before it was placed on display 25 years ago, but could possibly need another. Very cool bike and with a little tlc and elbow grease would make for a great project bike. The bike is rideable but will require some small drive train tuning/lubricating to get back to fully operational. Both front and rear are fully functional. Tires do match but are not original, they are in good shape nonetheless. The crank is the original crank and the block pedals appear to be the a small girls pedal from the 50's, and are very worn. The fenders have several dings and dents, and a really bad silver paint. The bike is mostly original except that the fenders are not. Aesthetically the frame is in pretty good condition and has a nice patina from over the years. Aluminum tubing constructed using "mushroomed" tubes and chromed steel fork blades win no suspension. This is a Vintage 1930's Monark Silver king Ladies Bicycle.
